Every term at RVA
has a
character of its own. Third term is volleyball, rugby, “Senior
Safari”, mud, damp and cold. The 12 graders (always called Seniors
here) are winding down, preparing to leave Kenya and go on to further
education elsewhere in the world. Before that they have an extended
mid-term break with their classmates at the Coast. Senior Safari is
a trip that is anticipated for many years. Everyone is excited over
rugby this term. The Varsity team won the “Black Rock”
tournament in Nairobi last week, which was a real accomplishment.
The Titchie Choir is doing a play on Joshua. They have been working on it for half a year. Julianne has a solo.
The Kramers who have been dorm parents to junior high girls in the past will be returning in August to become dorm parents to our girls. They have three grown children and have shown themselves to be especially talented in this line of work. Michael will be doing more work with computers and I will be helping out more at Student Health. Even though we've had many great times in our present assignment, we are also looking forward to the upcoming changes. I have heard several times, “the only thing consistent at RVA is change.”
Blanket Update
Thanks to a mother of one of our dorm girls, baby blankets made it to the twenty-one babies in an orphanage in Tanzania. Davona Church writes: “I run the Cradle of Love Baby Home in Usa River, Tanzania. We have just received the lovely baby quilts! They are wonderful! This time of the year here in Tanzania we need the cuddly warmth of blankets and the babies look so cute wrapped up in the beautiful prints. Please pass along my appreciation to all the ladies who put time and love into making these. They can visit our website at www.cradleoflove.com to learn more about the babies and their stories.”
On June 3rd, I will be heading to “New Life Home” with some friends from RVA to deliver 100 more blankets. It will be extra special to be able to deliver them personally. There will be a short-term mission team from New Brunswick heading to New Life Home at the end of this year. My, it's a small world!
“Feed my Lambs” project
The needy people who were visited at their homes with homemade blankets and food parcels within the last two months were given a verbal and written invitation to attend a special Sunday church service at Matathia First Baptist Church. Mike and I look forward to attending this service. We'll make sure to cover this special event in our next newsletter.
Blessings,
Bernadine, Michael Julianne and Evan
