Throughout the experience of managing the Homemade Blankets for Kenya project, I have felt like this tiny excitable pea in a pod. Even though I'm not quite sure of all that is happenings connected to the project, I know something much bigger is going on outside my pod. Several people have shared their hearts regarding the project and the Kenya mission. These individuals have helped me to capture glimpses of the magic of the project and have encouraged me as we prepare to go to Kenya.
What people have shared about the blanket project:
“Yesterday, my family had their Christmas gathering and there my family members gave me these blankets. They all enjoyed doing them for the African children. One of my aunts bought one from a craft booth and when she told them what is was for, they gave two more! “(Beth in NB)
“I'm a former WMS member at Hillsborough Baptist- the home of the Steeves! I pray God's blessings on all the family.” (Edith in BC)
“One of our church members who is nearly blind wanted to send these blankets. She is such a blessing and testimony to us all.”(Ruby in NB)
“We decked the walls of the church with quilts for Kenya on Sunday and talked a bit about your blanket project.”(Kim, quilter from BC)
“This child's quilt was made at a workshop by several ladies of the Paradise Village Quilters. We hope this brings comfort to some child in Kenya.”(Audrey in NS)
”I am so glad you put the picture of your family in the Tidings but it was the quilt block that caught my eye first. I love to quilt and make quilts and other hand crafts.”(Ethel in NB)
“The blanket project is such a cool idea. We know of two small orphanages where if you got 12 blankets, you could cover all the kids.”(Steve, a missionary in Kenya)
“Just sent a snap of Kenya blankets to Tidings today, as news item.... All the best in Kenya for your family and bless you all.”(Mary in NS)
“We pray that this project has had good success and you will have a lot of blankets and quilts to send to Kenya.”(Christina in NS)
“The King's Kids Club, together with their leaders, decided in late March that our project would be to knit a baby blanket for Kenya. This decision transpired as we were using the Tidings for our mission emphasis. The story we were using was called Millie's Adventure by Bryan Hagerman. Millie was a little girl seven years old and a missionary child who attended The Rift Valley Academy. So, as you can see, Countdown to Kenya brought life to our lessons and gave them a hands-on project which made it more real to the children.” They became more interested in their stories and began asking questions.” ( Patricia in NS)
“I hope you have received many more quilts. I know they will be well used, and bring comfort to many children. Children are so precious.”(Phyllis in NS)
“I'm so glad you've received so many blankets and quilts for Kenya.... May you all enjoy your ministry at Rift Valley Academy and the friendships you will form there.”(Estella in NB)
“I have been getting together with my Catholic friends making quilts. The blanket project has really helped make my community closer.” (Madge in PEI)
“I just posted a box to you with 4 quilts to Kenya. These are quilts made by Sunshine members from all over the USA. They made the tops and I quilted them.”(Bev from Alaska)
“This is quite a nice idea. I am a quilter. This was an opportunity to use my skills for the Lord's work.”(Marvin in NB)
“I am so glad there are folks like you and others who are helping them(Africans) the best you can. (Ann, quilter from California)
“The blanket project was so contagious, a person passing by our knitting group decided to help us knit more squares.”(Charlotte in NB)
Isn't great to hear so much good news? Thanks for all your words of encouragement and taking time to share some glimpses beyond my small corner of the world. 1001: what an awesome number of blankets to keep African children warm and comfortable! Thanks a million... or shall I say a thousand!
Sincerely,
Bernadine
