Steeves' Summary Volume 2 #1: Steeves Returning to Kenya in 2010                              April 2009

After being told in January that Rift Valley Academy had all its positions filled for 2010, our family came to terms with living in Canada for a while longer. Life continued here as our daughter Julianne carefully chose a high school in Saint John for the next few years and our family made personal plans to travel to Kenya for a few weeks in December. Our family was  settling into life in Canada when we received a visit from Sam Thomas from Toronto, our Personnel Director from Africa Inland Mission.

Sam's  news was quite unexpected. He stated, "Rift Valley Academy would like to have you back on staff starting in August 2010." Our family was in state of shock over the news, to which my daughter Julianne responded, “My whole life has changed in 5 minutes!” She later announced to Bernadine and I with great conviction, "I don't want to go to Kenya..."  Bernadine and I couldn't believe our ears!  She then proceeded, "...in December as we'll just be going back a few months later."  She also reminded us of an earlier thought that we could use the money saved to buy a car in Kenya. Julianne is always so practical. What a girl!

Rift Valley Academy is a boarding school serving about 450 children of missionaries. The parents serve in over 20 different African countries, representing dozens of nationalities.  Bernadine was asked to be a resident nurse in Student Health Services at the school, while I will be helping out in the computer department. We are looking forward to building relationships with the students during our 3 year term at Rift Valley Academy.

Feed My Lambs:

Our "Feed My Lambs" project continues to help the poor in the local community. Since its beginnings in 2006, the project has encouraged many Kenyans through the special Sunday services and meals held at the Escarpment, Matathia, and Kijabe Town churches. They have also been encouraged by the blankets, food packets, and Bibles that they have received. We are especially thankful that the project has been able to provide extra food packets this year during Kenya's prolonged drought.

Please pray for:

He has showed you, O man, what is good. And what does the LORD require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God.  Micah 6:8
