Elisha and the van at a rest stop/curio shop on our way.

We arrived at Sweetwaters Tented Camp and headed for our “rooms”

This is a tent, of sorts. Not the camping I'm used to!

It was very comfortable

The view from the porch of our tent. Warthogs at the waterhole.

We headed for a game drive in the afternoon, watching Baboons and their babies

Chimpanzees are not native to Kenya, but Jane Goodall has established a sanctuary at Sweetwaters to shelter chimps that have been rescued from the pet trade.

There is something human looking about these apes

Our next stop was to visit Morani, the tame Rhino. We fed him sugar cane which he quite enjoyed!

The whole family with Morani

The peaks of Mt. Kenya showed up shortly before sunset

This Buffalo had one crooked horn

Back at the camp some Buffalo were at the waterhole. There is a moat with an electric fence between the Buffalo and the photographer!

The camp at night

At dawn, Mt. Kenya was clear

Some Zebra trotted in front of our van before deciding that the grassland was safer!

Baboons are always photogenic

Mt. Kenya, at over 5000 metres was very majestic in the morning

After our morning game drive we sat at our tent porch reading while watching a parade of animals come to the waterhole and salt lick.

The parade of animals from our tent

A Superb Starling, a common bird around the lodge

A fascinating thorn tree

They must have very smart elephants!

We had to walk for some distance with a guard to see these hippos in the river.

The rain clouds were building over the plain

The waterhole at night

Giraffe in the early morning light.

An endangered black rhino

Our best view of elephants -- on the next ridge

A pride of lions in the distance all turned and headed for our van, much to Bernadine's consternation!

They stopped 30 meters away at a previously unseen zebra carcass

A lioness in the grass

A warthog, not the prettiest creature

A final view of Mt. Kenya as we headed home.
